Two more Sateri mills have been certified as EU-BAT compliant

Sateri, the world’s largest viscose manufacturer, has confirmed that Sateri Jiujiang and Sateri Jiangxi, two additional Sateri mills in China, have acquired verification of compliance with the European Union Best Available Techniques Reference Document (EU-BAT BREF) on Polymers emissions limitations.

This raises Sateri’s total number of EU-BAT compatible mills to three out of five, accounting for more than 60% of the company’s total fiber production capacity. Sateri Fujian was the company’s first mill to be certified as EU-BAT complaint in April of this year.

The criteria of the EU-BAT BREF were verified by independent consultant Sustainable Textile Solutions (STS), a part of BluWin Limited (UK), and covered resource utility efficiency, wastewater discharge, and air pollution.

The energy intensity and air emissions at Sateri Jiujiang and Sateri Jiangxi, for example, were substantially below EU-BAT standards for viscose manufacturing, according to STS. The mills each saved around 1,100 kg CO2/MT of fiber output, based on the EU-BAT energy needs a limit of 30GJ/MTf. There were no gaps detected against EU-BAT since the mills fulfilled local regulations for reducing the environmental effects of viscose manufacturing.

Sateri Jiangxi, the company’s first and oldest mill, is 16 years old, while Sateri Jiujiang was bought and enlarged in 2015.

Allen Zhang, President of Sateri, said that for three of our five mills to meet the EU-BAT emissions limitations in such a short period of time is a tribute to their continuous investment in best-in-class technologies. They strive to attain a high level of sustainability performance throughout all of their activities, therefore this applies to all of their mills, whether they are existing, acquired, or newly constructed.”

Sateri’s remaining two mills, Sateri Jiangsu and Sateri China, which were acquired and built in 2019 respectively, are on pace to meet EU-suggested BAT’s emission limits by 2023.
