Vegan Leather
The technical testing organisation is Germany, TÜV SÜD has announced the launch of vegan product certification for the producers of the apparel, footwear and home textiles. It looks to certify brands looking to portray animal welfare credentials.
The certification ensures that the final textile product does not contain animal-driven materials through a series of material composition tests. They also monitor the production process and conduct regular audit tests.
The main aim of this certification is to make it easier and more reliable for consumers to buy vegan products. As the credibility of the brand is at stake, the certification will help consumers buy authentic products. Vegan clothing, footwear and home textile products refer to products that are produced free of animal-derived materials, such as leather, fur, animal fibres like wool and silk, glue, dye and substances such as beeswax, and carmine dye extracted from cochineal insects.
The company has also ventured into the new certification as more and more consumers and organisations are concerned with animal rights. As the vegan trend hits the lifestyle choice for many consumers, they are not just looking for a food-driven change but also in clothing, footwear and home textile products.
The company stated that to meet consumer needs and enhance consumers’ trust in the products, enterprises need to ensure that materials used in the products don’t contain any animal-derived materials. The company added that the factories need to take adequate control measures to ensure that final products are not adulterated with animal-derived ingredients.
The companies seeking certification are required to take the non-animal derived component test, review of the materials and chemicals utilised during production and also surveillance to ensure products do not contain or mix with animal-source ingredients.
After going through the rigours procedure and fulfilling all the requirements the companies will be granted permission to use the vegan product certification mark issued by TÜV SÜD. This would be their declaration that the products are vegan and have been tested by an unbiased third-party.
