LYCRA showcases renewable fiber innovations

The LYCRA Company is presenting a range of new fibre technologies at the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics Autumn Edition, focusing on performance, comfort and the use of recycled and renewable materials.

One of the key launches is COOLMAX CloakFX, a recycled polyester fibre designed to help reduce the visible appearance of sweat while providing moisture management and opacity in both wet and dry conditions.

The fibre is intended for woven fabrics and is made entirely from recycled PET. According to the company, it is certified under the Global Recycled Standard and is being demonstrated in applications including sportswear, workwear and everyday clothing.

The company is also previewing new woven and knitted versions of LYCRA FiT400 fibre, which is designed to provide stretch without using spandex. The updated knitted range is available in three levels, Essential, Expanded and Elevated, while the woven version is designed to give traditional-looking fabrics durable, low-to-moderate stretch.

Another material being presented is Renewable LYCRA fibre, which contains 70% renewable content, partly sourced from field corn grown in the American Midwest. The company says the fibre offers performance similar to conventional LYCRA while helping reduce the carbon footprint of finished garments.
