Sympatex to present recycled PET linings at the Performance Days

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2016-04-12 16:00:00 – Paris

Sympatex Technologies, a German functional textile business and leading global suppliers of high tech functional materials in clothing, footwear, accessories, protective workwear (Contract & Workwear) and technical applications will present new outer and lining materials made of recycled PET bottles at the Performance Days in Munich.

Sympatex worked with Italian thermal insulation company Thermore and Italian yarn specialist Sinterama to develop the materials, said Haymo Strubel, director apparel at Sympatex Technologies.

The materials are said to offer diverse applications in the fields of sports, fashion and leisure, with the recycled polyester outer material having been certified according to Global Recycle Standard.

In combination with their 100 percent waterproof and windproof as well as optimally breathable Sympatex membrane, the recycled PES outer materials offer a top performance. They are ideal for all requirements of their customers in the field of weather protection and comparable to newly fabricated PES materials on a high level. Moreover, these products are entirely made in the EU and have an optimised carbon footprint.

The Sympatex membrane is guaranteed green, it is made of polyetherester and 100 percent recyclable. It is also free of PTFE and PFC. Thus, the mono-material polyester laminates can be completely added to the recycling process.

Presenting on these issues will be Ashley Gill of Textile Exchange, who will look at certification for recycled materials, Thread CEO, Ian Rosenberger, who will look at using recycled fabrics to address poverty, and Nora Kuhner, an independent fashion and design consultant who will examine how to "change the game" of waste and production. Closing the loop in textiles will also be high on the agenda.

The Performance days in Germany will include the latest trends in fabric development for the functional textile industry and is the only exhibition to link seasonal sourcing schedules (April/May and November), offering textiles, yarns, finishes and accessories. The functional fabric fair attracts the major international manufacturers and most of the well-known sportswear and active clothing brands as well as the sports fashion collection industry.

Challenges and opportunities around recycled textile materials will be the key theme of the upcoming Performance days in Germany, running from 20-21 April 2016 and include more than 120 exhibitors from 23 nations.
