The South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) and the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen research and technical cooperation in textile innovation and technology development. The agreement was signed during the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS) 2026, held in Taiwan from October 6 to 8.
The partnership will focus on man-made fibres for speciality applications, medical textiles and sustainable solutions for textile processing. By combining SITRA’s expertise in textile research, testing, consultancy, training and industry support with TTRI’s capabilities in advanced textile technologies and applied research, the institutions aim to develop practical and scalable solutions for the industry.
The MoU outlines cooperation in three areas: capacity building, collaborative research and technology development, and testing and standards. Planned capacity-building activities include training programmes, expert lectures, workshops, researcher exchanges, industrial visits and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Research collaboration will explore sustainable processing, functional and technical textiles, advanced fibres, resource-efficient manufacturing, recycling, circularity, digitalisation and automation. The institutions also intend to strengthen quality assurance, laboratory practices, testing-method validation and proficiency comparisons, while supporting alignment with international standards and requirements.
