Finnish textile material innovation company Spinnova has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent with Portuguese yarn spinner Tearfil Textile Yarns to secure access to future volumes of SPINNOVA fiber. Under the agreement, Tearfil plans to use SPINNOVA fiber in blended yarns intended for the European textile market.
SPINNOVA fiber is produced from raw materials such as wood pulp and various waste streams, without the use of dissolving chemicals. The fiber can be processed using both conventional textile methods and newer manufacturing techniques, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
The material is positioned as an alternative to cotton in products such as T-shirts, trousers, jackets, denim, overshirts and accessories. In addition to apparel, SPINNOVA fiber can also be used in insulation materials and composite applications.
Pedro Brito, Senior Commercial Manager at Spinnova, said that interest from brands and industrial partners in future fiber volumes is important for the company’s growth. He noted that collaboration across the entire value chain is essential and that the agreement with Tearfil supports Spinnova’s long-term goal of scaling fiber production. He added that the partnership will help make SPINNOVA fiber more widely available and support the development of sustainable, high-quality textile materials.
