Scottish knitwear company introduces new product Donegal yarn

Johnstons of Elgin, also known as Johnstons Cashmere, is a woollen mill based in Elgin, Moray, Scotland making cashmere and fine wollen cloth, knitwear and accessories in Scotland since established in 1797 have introduced Donegal yarn into their popular knitwear collection.

As far back as 1851 the company pioneered the weaving of Vicuna and Cashmere in Scotland. This method remains the foundation of their products today.

The company will now add Donegal yarn to their products, which are knitted in Hawick, Scotland.

There is a growing trend in knitwear for marled, speckled, tweed effect fabrics so, with this in mind, they have introduced their Donegal yarn into our knitwear collection.

The yarn is spun in Elgin with knops of multi-colour added during the blending process to give a random spread of hues and tones. They are expecting the products to be successful during colder weather.

Though the enterprise now covers 20 acres, employs 790 people and utilises some of the most advanced textile equipment in the world, the basic production process – and the superior quality of the end product – has changed very little since the company’s founding.
