Restoration of Angola’s textile industry begins

Restoration of all of industrial units, beginning with textile industry existing in three locations within the country (Luanda, Benguela, and Dondo), as well as to provide plant facilities and carry out installation work has been taken up which involves investment to the tune of US$2 billion, is entirely funded by the Angolan state.

Work to modernize and expand the África Têxtil (Benguela) textile company in Angola is due to be finished this year, once it was finished would double the size of the factory while the work on Textang II, in Luanda, has already concluded and is now only waiting for its re-inauguration.

Satec, which is located in the city of Dondo in Kwanza Norte province, is also moving along in terms of its renovation and work is expected to complete in 2015, said Angola’s secretary of state for Industry, Kiala Ngone Gabriel in Luanda.

Once the factories start operating, it would create over 3,000 jobs of the people of Angola.

The Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development has also recently announced the re-launch of cotton production in Angola, based on the intentions of economic and industrial entrepreneurs.

Angola was a production area for cotton, with plans to promote its textile industry under government leadership, and was one of Africa’s leading textile exporting countries.

As of now, the textile factories will have to work with imported raw material, until there is national production,
