Re-Nylon collection by Prada restates its sustainability goals

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2020-08-21 12:31:44 – Italy

The ever-popular Prada handbags are now available in innovative recycled nylon. The brand has utilized ECONYL, a material created out of recycled fishing nets, ocean waste and discarded textiles to launch women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories. This was first released in 2019 and now has been used to promote the use of eco-friendly fabrics and fibers through a process called depolymerization and re-polymerization. These processes ensure the fabric can be recycled indefinitely. The collection will be exhibited in the form of an installation at the Selfridges Corner Shop from 17 August.

The customers can expect a captivating experience at the Oxford Street Flagship, featuring clips by National Geographic, video wallpaper and animations. The consumers are welcome to educate themselves on the making of the Re-Nylon collection. Adhering to Prada’s aesthetics the collection projected throughout will be themed in black and white.

Sebastian Manes, Selfridges’s executive buying and merchandising director stated that the Prada Re-Nylon Corner Shop would be a synthesis of the vision, creativity and sustainability of the Re-Nylon concept and would help bring to life commitments of ProjectEath. He believes this would change the ambition of shopping. He further stated that craftsmanship is the essence of the product and sustainability is its future.

This Re-Nylon launch is a fraction of a wider sustainable undertaking at Selfridges Project Earth which is an element of the brand’s commitment to environmentally friendly and ethical practices. This collection marks Prada’s progress in the ongoing dedication to sustainability. This aids the shift in the landscape of the fashion industry with the assistance of over 300 companies. This concept has been idealized keeping in mind three goals of materials, models and mindsets. All the three have contributed heavily to the overall vision of the project.

Manes said that sustainability had always been central to their business for over 10 years. He believes that Project Earth will drive them to achieve their ambitions over the next five years. He stated that he was proud of the diverse group of innovative collaborators.
