Ralph Lauren introduces cashmere recycling scheme

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-01-30 17:06:07 – USA

Ralph Lauren showcased its first Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold cashmere sweater, alongside the news it is launching a cashmere recycling program in North America, the UK, and Europe.

According to Ralph Lauren in a press statement, the cashmere sweater was created "to be worn, cherished, and live on ethically for generations to come." It will be offered under the Purple Label for men and Collection for women labels.

The sweater has a label made of organic cotton and is made of excellent cashmere fibers and beautiful colors. The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, a non-profit that has established the global standard for products that are safe, circular, and responsible, examined the Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold Cashmere Sweater through a multi-step certification procedure.

The sweater has a label made of organic cotton and is made of excellent cashmere fibers and dyed in rich hues. The Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold Cashmere Sweater was analyzed through a multi-step certification process with the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, a non-profit that has set the global standard for products that are safe, circular, and made responsibly.

The certification is based on how well a product performs in five key areas of sustainability: social justice, material health, product circularity, clean air, and climate protection, and water and soil stewardship.

According to Ralph Lauren, the original emblem will be replaced by the $995 USD Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold crewneck sweater, and the certification will be extended to cover more cashmere products. In order to achieve Cradle to Cradle Certification by 2025, Ralph Lauren has pledged to certify five of its iconic hallmark pieces.

Katie Ioanilli, chief global impact, and communications officer at Ralph Lauren, said that the kind of luxury they stand for at Ralph Lauren has always been about timelessness, sincerity, and a life well-lived. More than ever, they think that true luxury includes a product's craftsmanship as well as its aesthetic appeal and quality. With plans to produce four more certified symbols by 2025, they've developed the first luxury cashmere product to be Cradle to Cradle Certified in the industry.

Ralph Lauren also announced that it is launching a cashmere recycling program for 100% cashmere as part of the Cradle to Cradle certification process in collaboration with Re-Verso, a leading textile production company that combines science and technology to develop a circular economy manufacturing system for high-quality wool and cashmere.

The program, which will initially be offered in North America and Europe, will allow customers to send any brand of 100% cashmere clothing to Re-Verso in Prato, Italy, for recycling.

Ralph Lauren's 'Timeless by Design' philosophy, which seeks to ensure that its products are utilized by future generations, is part of its commitment to sustainability, and the move is an example of this. Ralph Lauren has also set a target to incorporate circular principles into its design and development process by 2025 and to build on these commitments by enabling the responsible continuation of its past and present products by 2030.
