PolyU, Wuyi University sign agreement for green textiles

PolyU, or the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is all set to endorse and promote green and healthy textiles and in its endeavour to make this happen, it has signed a collaborative agreement with Wuyi University, China.

The agreement distinctly states that both PolyU and the Chinese university will invest significantly in the research and development of green and healthy textiles for a period extending up to 3 years.

The collaborative deal will help the experts of both universities introduce new dyeing and finishing technologies for fabrics so as to minimise or eliminate the ill-effects caused by fibres and its associated processes on environment.

What makes the agreement the one to look out for is that the research will study all methodologies that enhance the antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti fungal textile properties.

Professor Alex Wai, Vice President, Research Development, PolyU, said during the signing ceremony that PolyU has proven history of translating effective research results into appropriate technologies that benefit society as well as humankind on the whole.

He added that the agreement with Wuyi University would further help in successfully developing the next generation of green and healthy fabrics.

PolyU with an experience of 80 years has more than 400,000 alumni globally with around 28,000 students.
