Modern Meadow partners with Singtex to develop innovative biomaterials

Modern Meadow, a purpose-driven biotechnology company, has announced a co-development partnership with Singtex, a leading global provider of environmentally friendly functional fabrics, for the development of chemical-free, sustainably manufactured outdoor clothing.

Starting with a high-performance, waterproof membrane-based material for outdoor garments that are produced sustainably, the two businesses will create new and cutting-edge biomaterials for a variety of uses.

By combining performance and sustainability through a range of product innovations, beginning with this new material, the partnership will address the unmet needs of the outdoor apparel industry. It will be powered by Bio-Alloy™, Modern Meadow’s proprietary protein-based technology, and SINGTEX’s expertise as a leading global manufacturer of eco-friendly and functional textiles.

The bio-derived membrane-based material is engineered to bring the outdoor industry a sustainable solution at a scale that protects human health and the environment while delivering superior product performance through waterproofing, breathability, abrasion, and durability. It is free of solvents, like dimethylformamide (DMF), and free of per- or poly-fluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS).

Catherine Roggero-Lovisi, CEO of Modern Meadow, said that as consumer demand for environmentally friendly products increases, this relationship is important to provide high-performing sustainable materials to market at scale and create real-world impact. Modern Meadow and SINGTEX will engineer every component of the product to enable outdoor apparel and equipment manufacturers to substitute the use of hazardous chemicals, petrochemicals, and animal byproducts with moral and environmentally responsible inputs, meet more demanding customer demands, and achieve sustainability goals.

Jason Chen, chairman of the SINGTEX Group, said that this is just the beginning of SINGTEX’s journey of collaborative innovation with Modern Meadow. It’s an honor to collaborate with Modern Meadow and leverage each of its individual abilities to make a genuine contribution in this area. Together, they are eager to bring the next generation of ecologically friendly, high-performance textiles into the world by introducing their brand-new biobased product.

The Bio-Alloy from Modern Meadow is a proprietary technological application platform that gives materials exceptional performance and sustainability. Materials for a variety of applications get a unique combination of mechanical and thermal qualities from the Bio-Alloy technology. A novelty in the field of sustainable biotechnology, Modern Meadow’s innovations integrate seamlessly into current infrastructures enabling rapid, wide-scale adoption in the textile, cosmetics, and other industries. In order to have a greater impact, Modern Meadow, known for its creative contribution to the BioFabbrica Bio-TexTM material, which has been demonstrated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90% when compared to conventional leather, will broaden their commercial offerings to include material families other than alternative leather.
