Minibag: Sustainable Handling of Black Carbon

Orion Engineered Carbons S.A., are known for their worldwide supply of special high-performance Black Carbon. On July 15th they announced the introduction of an innovative packaging system with a soluble and meltable property bearing Minibags to ensure dust-free and sustainable handling.

Orion has extended a helping hand to sustainability by developing Minibag as a customized packaging solution for Carbon Black. These bags have been made keeping in mind the different material types. Melting points and capacities in terms of volume and weight. The aim of the design was to optimize the production process and serve small order quantities that lie between 100 g to 10kgs. These Minibags are suitable for powder and beaded Carbon Blacks.

Carbon Black is a substance that is dusty and fluffy, often having handling and packaging challenges. The Minibags solves this challenge by allowing direct incorporation into the production process without opening the bags. Depending on the material the Minibags can be designed to have water-soluble or meltable properties in polymers thus reducing waste and allowing dust-free processing of Carbon Black. All common polyethylene and other compatible elastomer bases as well as ethylene-vinyl acetate or polyvinyl alcohol are offered to clients as Minibag materials. The various material characteristics and different melting points enable the company to adapt the bags according to customer’s requirements. In areas where moisture protection of Carbon Black is important, Orion Engineered Carbon also offers aluminum bags.

The production of these Minibags takes place in Germany and is available for immediate purchase.
