LWG, ZDHC align standards for chemical management in leather industry

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-02-19 16:55:34 – United Kingdom

The Leather Working Group (LWG) and Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation have collaborated to harmonize the standards of their respective programs, aiming to simplify sustainable chemical management practices for leather manufacturers.

This partnership sets an example of industry organizations working together to address critical sustainability challenges. By aligning the LWG audit standard with the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme, the collaboration focuses on areas such as the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL), wastewater management, and air emissions.

By integrating the LWG Audit Standard with ZDHC’s Supplier to Zero and InCheck Solutions, the collaboration aims to reduce the compliance burden on leather manufacturers while ensuring responsible chemical management. Both organizations emphasize the importance of brands and industry media in spreading awareness of this harmonized approach and urge other organizations to explore similar partnerships to achieve shared objectives and increase efficiency.
