LOOM Carbon has announced a strategic research partnership with RTI International, an independent scientific research institute. The collaboration aims to scale LOOM’s thermal chemical recycling technology, which is designed to convert non-recycled and difficult-to-recycle textile waste into sustainable, carbon-neutral materials.
LOOM Carbon’s technology is capable of processing mixed and contaminated textile waste and converting it into high-value materials that can be reused in industrial supply chains.
Kimberly Landry, Chief Executive Officer of LOOM Carbon, said that the collaboration with RTI shows that blended textile waste can be turned into useful resources. She added that the partnership supports LOOM’s move from pilot-stage development to commercial readiness, proving that textile waste should be seen as a valuable resource rather than a burden.
The 12-month programme will focus on expanding LOOM’s system to handle complex textile waste streams, confirming the quality of the recycled outputs, and preparing the technology for commercial deployment. The project aims to support the processing of millions of tonnes of textile waste each year across Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, and other regions introducing textile stewardship regulations. LOOM Carbon has invited industry partners interested in supplying feedstock or entering offtake agreements to get in touch.
