Hong Kong-based fashion supply chain logistics specialist Li & Fung, has teamed up with environmental non-profit Canopy, joining its CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives, which aim to enable supply chains to protect vulnerable forests and bring an alternative, Next Generation Solutions in packaging and viscose manufacturing.

As a result, Li & Fung has pledged to keep irreplaceable forests out of viscose and paper packaging by implementing circular, Next Generation alternatives and enlisting the help of its brand and retail customers in these efforts.

Li & Fung works with brands and retailers to create, source, and distribute a wide range of products from over 50 factories. As a worldwide supply chain convener, Li & Fung will work with its brand and retail customers to improve forest protection through responsible material procurement, product manufacturing, and the transportation of products.

This cooperation will aid Li & Fung's sustainability journey in developing environmental resilience across global supply chains by using Canopy's track record of working with multinational corporations to safeguard endangered forests. Both organizations will collaborate to create solutions that will aid in the transition of the industry.

Deepika Rana, Li & Fung's COO, said that they realize that developing sustainable supply chains cannot be done alone – and so they are extremely delighted to be collaborating with Canopy to promote ambitious and tangible solutions for the climate and forests in the clothing and packaging supply chains. They’re looking forward to continuing to satisfy the demands of a dynamic global retail industry while also working with their broad manufacturing network to strengthen sustainability initiatives and protect the world's forests and climate.

Nicole Rycroft, executive director of Canopy, said that when a business as important as Li & Fung decides to alter their sourcing to preserve the world's forests and climate, it reverberates across supply chains in all corners of the world. They’re delighted to begin the next phase of their collaboration in building future supply chains.
