Austrian fibre manufacturer Lenzing has introduced a new cellulose fibre named Tencel Lyocell-HV100, designed to mimic the textured look of natural fibres. According to the company, this innovation was developed in response to market needs. The fibre’s irregular, natural appearance comes from carefully controlled variations in its staple length, ranging from 10 to 28 millimetres.

Lenzing explained that the matte surface of the fibre gives fabrics a soft, opaque look and allows designers more creative freedom to create materials that resemble natural fibres. The fibre also provides a soft but firm feel, especially suitable for premium denim fabrics, and maintains its smoothness even after washing. Tencel Lyocell-HV100 performs well in denim applications that require an authentic, textured finish.

The new fibre offers an alternative for warp yarns, an area usually dominated by cotton, while still ensuring smooth production for manufacturers. Early tests also show promising results in both apparel and home textile products, suggesting a wider range of uses beyond denim.

Florian Heubrandner, Vice President of Global Business Management Textiles at Lenzing, said the development marks an exciting step forward for innovation and collaboration within the textile industry. “The controlled variation in the fibre structure enables new types of yarns and fabrics that were not previously possible with Lyocell,” he noted, adding that creative approaches from various markets point to strong potential for unique product development.
