Lenzing Group receives a platinum CSR certification from EcoVadis

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-07-26 13:58:56 – Austria

In EcoVadis' CSR assessment, the Lenzing Group, the world’s leading supplier of sustainably produced specialty fibers, has been awarded Platinum accreditation. The assessment includes all four major CSR practices: the environment, fair working conditions, and human rights, as well as ethics and sustainable procurement.

Lenzing had previously achieved exceptional ratings in all categories in the preceding three years, earning Gold status in 2018, 2019, and 2020. In 2021, the firm not only maintained its top position but even surpassed it, earning Platinum classification. As a result, Lenzing is in the top 1% of all firms evaluated in the globe.

Stefan Doboczky, CEO of the Lenzing Group, said that they’re ecstatic to have progressed to Platinum status following many Gold ratings over the last few years. At Lenzing, they always look beyond fibers and take responsibility for children and grandkids, for whom they strive to be better every day. This approach is part of their strategic beliefs, and they’ll continue to work hard to contribute to the environment and society in a sustainable way.

Climate objectives are an important component of the Lenzing Group's strategy and duty to future generations. In 2019, Lenzing became the first fiber company in the world to commit to halving CO2 emissions per tonne of product by 2030 and even reaching carbon-neutral by 2050. Lenzing's climate objectives have been scientifically confirmed by the Science-Based Targets Initiative, the most well-known organization in the field of climate-relevant target-setting.

This scientific confirmation is also one of the most important factors highlighted by EcoVadis in its assessment. Furthermore, support for external environmental initiatives (Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action) as well as initiatives on labor and human rights issues (Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action) were highlighted as additional core elements in the company's sustainability strategy.

Since its founding in 2007, EcoVadis has grown to become the world's largest and most reputable source of corporate sustainability ratings, with over 75,000 assessed firms in 160 countries. It also provides data and technologies that aid in the improvement of supply chain transparency throughout the world. In terms of the environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement, the methodological framework evaluates firms' policies, measures, and actions, as well as their public reports.
