Lenzing expands Tencel innovations amid market challenges

Tencel lyocell, produced by Lenzing, plays a key role in DL1961’s DL Ultimate collection of smooth, comfortable denim. It’s also a major part of Lee’s new men’s line, Lee X, which focuses on performance features. Pepe Jeans has used Tencel in its preppy summer tops and bottoms as well.

In April, Lenzing launched Tencel 2.2, a new version of the fiber that is thicker and rougher than standard Tencel. It has a more matte appearance and a drier texture, making it feel similar to linen. Tencel 2.2 offers denim manufacturers a more reliable and cost-effective alternative to linen, which can be inconsistent and difficult to handle. At the launch, Lenzing presented both lightweight and heavier fabric samples made by Artistic Milliners using this new fiber.

Tencel 2.2 is also included in Lenzing’s Application Innovation Collection (ALC), a seasonal showcase that highlights how the company’s fibers, like Ecovero, Tencel Modal, and Indigo Color, can be used in creative ways. Some exciting new developments include Ecovero used in jacquard fabrics, blends of Tencel and pineapple fibers, and digitally printed fabrics made entirely of Tencel.
