Kraig Biocraft to commercially ship spider silk fibers

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, a company focused on developing and commercialising spider silk fiber technology, is preparing to send its first spider silk fiber samples to three companies working in the fashion and performance textile sectors. These upcoming shipments represent Kraig Labs’ first commercial sales and mark an important step in its long development journey.

According to a report, the samples will be sent to three firms, including two sportswear brands and one luxury textile company. The fibers are intended for testing and evaluation before wider use. The quantities will be used for spinning, weaving, dyeing, and real-world performance testing. These steps are standard in the textile industry before a new fiber is approved for large-scale production and commercial use.

Kraig Labs will provide recombinant spider silk fibers that are designed to be strong, elastic, breathable, and biodegradable. These qualities make the material suitable for use in high-performance clothing as well as luxury fashion products.

The report states that this development could shift competition within the biomaterials industry. The report states that spider silk has long been seen as an ideal performance fiber due to its strength and flexibility, and Kraig Labs’ move from research to delivery signals the beginning of a new competitive phase.
