Kolon Industries achieves environmental certification for nonwoven fabrics

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-09-18 16:52:22 – South Korea

Kolon Industries, a chemical and textile company based in South Korea, proudly announced that two of their spunbond nonwoven fabric products, Finon and Finon Eco, have received certification according to the international standard for Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). This achievement marks a significant milestone in the Korean industry.

This certification was granted not only by the EPD International AB in Sweden but also by the DP Norge in Norway. The EPD system thoroughly evaluates a product's environmental impact, considering its entire lifecycle from obtaining raw materials to disposal. It offers valuable guidance for consumers seeking environmentally conscious options.

Finon belongs to the spunbond category of nonwoven fabrics. Unlike woven or knitted fabrics, spunbond fabrics are made by directly bonding fibers, resulting in a consistent and stable structure. These fabrics find widespread use in various applications, from automotive carpets to industrial air filtration systems.

Finon Eco stands out for being environmentally friendly. It is crafted from recycled PET bottles, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 43% when compared to traditional white nylon products. Considering the versatility of spunbond nonwoven fabrics in both consumer and industrial applications, innovations that reduce their environmental impact are highly significant.

In a previous accomplishment from April last year, Kolon Industries received domestic EPD endorsements from the Ministry of Environment for both Finon and Finon Eco. This recognition was a pioneering achievement within the industry, reinforcing their commitment to environmental responsibility.
