Kelheim Fibres signs up for ZDHC program

Kelheim Fibres, a Bavarian viscose specialty fiber maker, has entered the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Roadmap to Zero scheme.

The non-profit organization has set a mission of entirely removing toxic chemicals from the clothing supply chain, with more than 160 contributors from around the world.

The ZDHC guidelines have uniform standards for calculating metrics such as pollution, air pollutants, and other process-related parameters for producers of man-made cellulosic fibers.

The collected data were tracked and distributed by a third party. Kelheim, the world’s first EMAS-validated viscose fiber manufacturer, sees its ZDHC membership as just another step toward yet more environmentally friendly fiber processing.

Kelheim CEO, Craig Barker said that they plan to use their expertise to help their business move toward a more environmentally friendly future. ZDHC’s vision of universal adoption of sustainable chemistry, pushing technologies and best practices in the clothing, fashion, and footwear sectors to protect customers, jobs, and the world, is one we wholeheartedly embrace.

He added that they have access to a variety of best practices in chemical management through ZDHC, as well as the ability to network and learn from like-minded business partners. Its cooperative strategy will hasten the transition to a more ethical market, and they want to help.
