Kavin Eco Green turns banana waste into handicrafts

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-06-30 14:39:57 – India

Entrepreneur Vanitha, founder of Kavin Eco Green, has turned agricultural waste into a successful handicrafts business by transforming banana fibers into eco-friendly, sustainable products, while also creating livelihood opportunities for women.

After bananas are harvested, Vanitha’s team collects the leftover stalks and plant material, extracts the fibers, and sun-dries them. These fibers are then crafted into about 30 different handmade products, including fruit baskets, home décor items, and more.

Vanitha and her co-founder Zameen Prabu recognized the untapped potential in post-harvest banana waste, especially at a time when many farmers struggled with unstable incomes due to market volatility.

By creating value-added products, the initiative not only boosted income for local farmers but also provided employment for 15–20 women in the area. Today, these women enjoy financial independence and a renewed sense of confidence in their skills and contributions.
