Isko becomes first denim mill in Europe with Bluesign approval

ISKO Denim has earned Bluesign’s stamp of approval and became the first denim mill in Europe to do so, less than a year after establishing a relationship with one of the industry’s strictest requirements for environmental health and textile manufacturing.

The denim mill launched Bluesign-approved fabric on April 29, which meets the standard’s stringent requirements for being made sustainably and without hazardous chemicals. The Bluesign System seeks to exclude hazardous chemicals from the start of the manufacturing process and defines and tracks guidelines for safer manufacturing.

CEO of Bluesign Technologies, Jill Dumain, said it is a great honor to acknowledge Isko as Europe’s only denim mill with Bluesign certified fabrics, demonstrating their unwavering contribution to responsible production, responsible chemistry, and responsible use of resources.

She adds that Isko is a pioneer and a leader in the garment industry as a Bluesign device affiliate. They are honored to assist them in their pursuit of innovation in sustainable textile manufacturing.

More fabric will be approved in the near future, according to the mill.

The mill joined the alliance in June 2020 with a Bluesign Company Assessment score of above-average, indicating its long-term contribution to sustainability. Isko has received awards from SAC, ZDHC, Oeko-Tex, Textile Exchange, and EU Ecolabel.

Light on the Land, the recycled materials set, was recently revised with greater accountability. All of the fabrics in the line were hand-picked from Isko’s R-Two network, which is made up of a combination of repurposed cotton and recycled fibers.

In February, the Bluesign System proposed a review of all of its chemical drug lists to include the most current research knowledge on toxicological and ecological profiles of chemicals, as well as new legal classifications of chemical substances, new legal consumer safety limits, revised risk assessments based on the Bluesign Criteria for chemical assessments.
