Commerce and industries minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia addressing annual conference of states’ textile ministers in New Delhi on Wednesday informed that Madhya Pradesh is 5th in the country in cotton production and hence has urged Union minister of textile Santosh Gangwar to constitute Textile Research Association and Export Promotion Council in MP.
It has 40 spinning mills, 8 special weaving units, 12 export-based units and 43,290 powerlooms and employs over 3 lakh people in textile industries in the state.
Laying emphasis on fair trade, Scindia said that a similar policy should also be implemented in MP to ensure direct dialogue between cotton growers and traders. Scindia has urged to make its beginning from Madhya Pradesh.
During the last few years, over Rs.5,000 crore has been invested in the textile sector of Madhya Pradesh.
