The Central Silk Board (CSB), under the Ministry of Textiles, along with leading Indian silk industry representatives, went to Vietnam to strengthen cooperation in sericulture, silk, textiles, and technical textiles. The visit was in line with the Government of India’s efforts to expand global partnerships, build stronger supply chains, and promote sustainable growth in the textile industry.

The delegation met members of the Vietnam Association of Craft Villages (VICRAFTS) to discuss the promotion of handlooms and handicrafts, product development, village-based initiatives, exports, and policy support. The association showed strong interest in working together.

As part of the programme, the team visited the well-known Van Phuc Silk Craft Village in Hanoi and interacted with local weavers and artisans. They gained valuable understanding of the village’s integrated system that connects weaving, embroidery, design, fashion, and market access. This model offered useful ideas for developing a similar sericulture-tourism approach in India.

The visit also included tours of modern sericulture and textile units, such as automated silk reeling facilities and mulberry farms. The delegation took part in major international events, including the Vietnam International Value Chain Exhibition 2026 (VIVC 2026) and the Vietnam Glorious Spring Fair 2026 (VGSF 2026) held at the Vietnam Exhibition Center. The Central Silk Board’s stall displayed a range of Indian silk products and attracted significant attention from visitors, highlighting the growing global demand for Indian silk.
