India Carpet Expo books Rs 306 cr business, over 2408 enquiries received

At the 35th India Carpet Expo, organized by the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) held in New Delhi with an aim to promote cultural heritage and to showcase the weaving skills of Indian hand-knotted carpet artisans amongst the overseas carpet buyers, 300 overseas carpet buyers from around 60 countries and 200 buying representatives/buying houses are attending.

India Carpet Expo was inaugurated on 8th March by Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta in presence of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Shantmanu. Minister of State for Textiles, Ajay Tamta said that the Handmade carpet industry holds No. 1 status in terms of value and quantity in export of handmade carpets.

On the 2nd day of the fair, Minister of Textiles, Information and Broadcasting, Smriti Zubin Irani in her address appreciated the efforts made by the CEPC towards export promotion and also to voluntarily sharing social responsibilities. Irani assured her full support to the council for all their export promotion efforts and for the welfare of the weavers.

Chairman of CEPC, Mahavir Pratap Sharma said that on the spot business of Rs. 306.00 crores were booked and over 2408 enquiries were received which will further generate business of approximately Rs. 100.00 crore which shall be executed in the coming months.

This expo will lead to opening up of new market opportunity for the industry and shall help small and medium Indian carpet exporters in promoting their products to overseas countries. Eventually, this ongoing process, on a broader scale, is instrumental in projecting ‘Make in India Brand’ in overseas markets.

India carpet expo is an ideal platform for international carpet buyers, buying houses, buying agents, architects and Indian carpet manufacturers and exporters to meet and establish long term business relationship. 60 countries participated in the expo.

The CEPC showcased products of more than 260 reputed small, medium and large manufacturer exporters from U.P., Rajasthan, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, etc.

300 overseas carpet buyers visited the expo to generate business for this rural cottage sector. CEPC endeavours to provide exclusive business environment to carpet importers as well as manufacturers and exporters, which ultimately will benefit about 2 million weavers and artisans employed in this highly labour intensive rural based MSME cottage industry.

CEPC organises this expo twice every year to promote Indian weavers worldwide. Every year expo generates huge amount of business. They assure their support to the carpet industry for their efforts for the betterment of small manufacturers and artisans.
