Hyphyn offers sustainable alternative to traditional vinyl

Nassimi has launched Hyphyn, a new kind of vinyl that combines strong performance with care for the environment. It is made using a special enzyme system and a unique resin blend and can handle heavy use while breaking down by more than 90% within two years in landfill settings. This is the first time a performance vinyl has achieved such results.

According to Iwan Nassimi, executive vice president of Nassimi, true innovation means challenging the limits of what’s possible. Hyphyn is a fresh take on how vinyl is made and disposed of, offering strong performance while solving the long-term waste issues of regular vinyl.

Vinyl has long been a popular choice in areas like offices, hospitals, hotels, schools, and stores because it is affordable, tough, and flexible. But it also has a downside — it does not break down easily and can stay in landfills for hundreds of years, causing microplastic pollution and harming the environment.

Hyphyn offers a better choice for designers, businesses, and decision-makers who are focused on sustainability. It provides the same strength and easy cleaning as traditional vinyl, but with one major benefit, it breaks down only in landfill conditions. This helps reduce waste over time without losing the performance that users expect.

Hyphyn has a special enzyme built into both its PVC surface and the polyester base, which makes the entire fabric biodegradable. In landfills, this enzyme activates when it comes into contact with certain microbes, speeding up the breakdown into harmless gases. These gases are then captured and turned into energy, creating a cleaner and more responsible system.
