Japanese outdoor apparel company Goldwin Inc. has partnered with Finland-based renewable fuels producer Neste, Japanese petrochemical company Idemitsu Kosan, and fiber manufacturer Toray Industries to establish a renewable nylon supply chain for selected The North Face products in Japan.
The collaboration is designed to replace conventional fossil-based feedstocks used in nylon production with renewable raw materials, supporting the apparel industry's transition toward lower-carbon synthetic fibers.
Under the partnership, Neste will supply Neste RE, a renewable naphtha produced from ISCC-certified bio-based feedstocks, including used cooking oil and other waste and residue materials. The renewable feedstock will be processed through the chemical value chain to produce nylon fiber suitable for high-performance outdoor apparel.
Goldwin will incorporate the renewable nylon into selected outerwear products while maintaining the durability, strength, and performance standards expected from the brand's technical apparel.
The initiative represents a collaborative effort spanning the chemical, fiber, and apparel industries. Idemitsu Kosan will process the renewable feedstock into chemical intermediates, while Toray Industries will manufacture the renewable nylon fibers that will ultimately be used in Goldwin's apparel production.
