Garware-Wall Ropes plan to grow technical textile business mainly in defense sector

The Government thrust on ‘Make in India’ has re-energised companies like Garware-Wall Ropes which are focused on research. Garware-Wall Ropes seeing immense potential of technical textile in defense have decided to grow its technical textile business by focusing on import substitutes, particularly in the defense sector.

The company has signed a letter of intent with the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to develop products.

The company recently supplied its first batch of technical textile to cover radars at sensitive locations. The Department of Science and Technology has recognized the company’s two research and development centres at Pune and Wai.

Shujaul Rehman, President and Chief Operating Officer, Garware-Wall Ropes, said that the market size of technical textiles in Indian defense is estimated at Rs.1,300 crore as the India imports 20 percent of its requirement from different countries such as Israel, Russia and the US.

Garware-Wall Ropes was established in 1976 by the visionary philanthropist late Mr. B. D. Garware in collaboration with M/s Wall Industries Inc. USA.
