Pleva introduces online assessment systems for textile coating control

Pleva, based in Empfingen, Germany, has developed the AF 310 and AF 120 microwave measurement systems to monitor coating applications during textile production. The systems measure coating thickness online without touching the material and provide continuous, non-destructive monitoring. Installed after the coating unit or doctor blade, they help detect process variations early, preventing the production of large amounts of material that fall outside quality specifications.

The AF 120 measures coating application at a single fixed point, while the AF 310 monitors three positions across the fabric width, left, center, and right. This allows manufacturers to identify coating differences across the material and maintain consistent application throughout the entire fabric. The technology is particularly useful for high-quality coatings, pastes, and foams where uniformity is essential.

During production, the systems help reduce setup time, minimize start-up waste, decrease the need for manual inspections, and improve process consistency. Operators can quickly check whether the coating is within the required tolerance range and make adjustments when needed. More accurate application of chemicals, pastes, and foams also helps lower material usage and reduce the energy required for drying.

The systems are supported by Pleva’s Plevatec Pro software, which displays, records, and analyzes measurement data. This information supports quality control, process optimization, product traceability, and integration with company networks through technologies such as OPC UA.
