G-STAR x Wu-Tang Clan
The Amsterdam-based brand, G-Star, has announced a multi-year partnership with the Wu-Tang Clan and Iconic Artists Group, expanding the denim brand’s recent focus on collaborations that connect fashion with culture.
According to G-Star, the collaboration offers a new way to bring the New York-born hip-hop group’s cultural identity into fashion. Rather than simply placing Wu-Tang branding on existing G-Star products, the collection will reinterpret G-Star’s signature washes and silhouettes with Wu-Tang details. It will also include outerwear and knitwear.
G-Star has also released the fourth edition of its The Denim series, a project that gives emerging designers an opportunity to explore denim beyond traditional designs and use the material for research and new ideas. For this edition, the brand has partnered with Los Angeles-based design studio Tombogo, founded by Tommy Bogo.
The limited-edition jean, named The Denim 004 Tombogo, combines the designer’s industrial and modern design approach with G-Star’s focus on utility. The unisex jean features a panelled construction, strap-and-buckle details, hidden pockets beneath the outer layers and gun-metal hardware throughout.
The first collection will launch this month alongside Wu-Tang Clan’s performance at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta. It will then be released worldwide ahead of the group’s planned induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November.
