BAM
British activewear brand BAM has launched a new Any Weather Mac, UK’s first certified recyclable waterproof coat, with 95% recycled content. The Any Weather Mac has been certified by the Circular Textiles Foundation and is designed to be fully recyclable at the end of its useful life.
The main components of the Any Weather Mac, including its membrane, adhesives, fabric and trims, are made from polyester containing 95% recycled content. The only part outside this polyester system is the removable zip head. The manufacturing process also avoids petrochemical-based glues to improve the coat’s recyclability.
The waterproofing treatment used on the mac is described as plant-based and does not contain polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as “forever chemicals”.
Customers can also return their Any Weather Mac through BAM’s take-back scheme once the product reaches the end of its useful life. The company says the scheme ensures that returned coats are recycled instead of being sent to landfill.
