Freudenberg’s Taiwan site receives LEED certification

Freudenberg Far Eastern Spunbond’s Tayuan Tao-Yuan site in Taiwan has received LEED certification for its resource-efficient, sustainable construction measures.

The abbreviation LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and certification recognizes environmentally friendly building development. The corporation used the opportunity provided by the installation of a new manufacturing line to revamp the production hall and warehouse adjacent to it.

Power and water from renewable resources are used effectively thanks to air conditioning units, modern lighting systems, and restroom facilities. Compressed air and cooling equipment’s energy usage was also examined and optimized. In the future, measuring equipment will continuously monitor and manage energy and water use, which will be beneficial not only in everyday operations but also in detecting leaks and other technical issues quickly.

Low-emission paint and a sophisticated circulation system provide good air quality within the manufacturing hall. The inside of the hall has lots of natural light thanks to the replacement of portions of the external covering with windows and transparent plastic materials.

The facility has prioritized waste reduction and recycling for decades. Freudenberg manufactures spunlaid nonwovens in Tayuan Tao-Yuan using recycled material derived from post-consumer PET bottles. Furthermore, an internal recycling system ensures that production waste is recycled back into the manufacturing process.
