Flipkart an e-commerce leader to promote and market handloom products made by the Chhattisgarhâ€™s handloom weavers, as the Government of Chhattisgarh has entered into an agreement with Flipkart to promote handloom. This was informed by Chhattisgarh Rural Industries Minister Punnulal Mohle during the annual conference of state textiles ministers in New Delhi this week.
Mohle addressing the conference said that Chhattisgarh is the second largest raw tussar silk producing state in the country and against the national production demand for 200 metric tonne, the state has been producing 500 metric tonne of raw tussar silk.
He also drew attention to the problems faced by the weavers of Chhattisgarh related to shortage of handloom thread adversely affects the state's textile industry. He urged the Centre not to stop supply of handloom thread to Chhattisgarh due to delay in payment and demanded 10 percent grant on polyester cotton yarn for weavers of Chhattisgarh on the lines of 10 percent grant given by the Centre on hank yarn.
He also urged the Centre to establish two yarn ware houses in the state to ensure adequate supply of yarn to weavers and a trade facilitation centre for encouraging Kosa producers.
Flipkart recently signed an MoU with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to create a platform for students under its 'Flipkart Kaarigar ke Dwaar Abhiyaanâ€™ . It has also signed a MoU with the Federation Of Indian Small Medium Enterprise (FISME) and with the Director General â€“ Employment & Training, Ministry of Labour and Employment (DGET), to help Indian MSMEs retail their range to the customers across the globe.
Further to promote handloom products the portal has also signed an MoU with DC, Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles.
