FibreTrace x Circular Systems
Textile innovation company Circular Systems™, has partnered with FibreTrace® to embed physical traceability technology into Texloop™ RCOT™ recycled cotton on a worldwide scale.
Circular Systems™ introduced Texloop™, a global platform for recycling textiles, in 2018. The post-industrial and pre/post-consumer cotton textile waste is upgraded by TexloopTM Recycling into high-performance RCOT™ recycled cotton fiber, which is acknowledged as the best and most consistent recycled cotton fibre in the global market.
Recycled cotton is one of the fiber options with the lowest environmental impact, thanks to technology. Texloop™’s recycled cotton uses up to 99% less water, 54% less energy, and 20% less carbon than conventional cotton (and totally mitigates land use).
FibreTrace® uses physical traceability markers suspended in recycled fibers to guarantee the accuracy of the information. Key supply chain data is safely collected, stored, and communicated via technology. The traceability technology eliminates the need for documentation or labeling, which ensures that the fiber itself can be tracked and lowers the possibility of fraud or human error.
Retailers have a foundation to get ahead of impending duties for EU nations thanks to Circular Systems™’s Texloop™ and FibreTrace® products working together, as industry regulation demands greater environmental accountability.
A key strategy to reduce the social and environmental effects of textile products on the EU market by 2030 was unveiled by the European Commission last year. The Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles focuses on making sure that products are long-lasting, recyclable, and made primarily of recycled fibers. The directive is essential for motivating the removal of still-useful textile materials from large waste streams.
Prioritizing recycled materials not only lowers the amount of textile waste produced but also enables valuable waste streams to be further processed, encouraging circularity and reducing the industry’s dependency on flammable virgin fibers.
Support for the recycled textile industry that is financially rewarded makes room for other technologies that address other sorts of waste. The Agraloop technology by Circular Systems™, which uses agricultural crops to make BioFibre™, a new type of high-value natural fiber for the fashion sector, is one such example.
As circular environments become the norm, adherence to the approach will help to finally decouple the production of textile waste from the expansion of the sector.
