Fashion for Good, AltMat to scale next-gen sustainable materials

Fashion for Good has entered into a strategic partnership with AltMat, an Ahmedabad-based innovator that converts agricultural waste into high-value textile fibres. Together, they have launched the Altag Fibre Club, a collaborative platform aimed at integrating AltMat’s sustainable fibres into mainstream textile production.

The Altag Fibre Club brings together a diverse group of Indian industry leaders across the supply chain. The consortium will work towards embedding AltMat’s innovative fibres into large-scale production systems.

Fashion for Good highlights that despite growing innovation in sustainable materials, their adoption is hindered by challenges such as high costs, limited production capacity, inconsistent sourcing, and a fragmented manufacturing landscape. On the other hand, material innovators like AltMat face difficulties in scaling due to high capital requirements and uncertain demand.

The Altag Fibre Club addresses this gap through a structured collaborative framework. By encouraging brands and manufacturers to pool resources and commit to minimum order quantities, the model helps reduce financial risks and align incentives across the value chain, from fibre development to final product manufacturing.

“This marks a major milestone in bringing commercially viable next-gen materials to scale,” said Katrin Ley, Managing Director of Fashion for Good. “By connecting innovators like AltMat with dedicated industry players, we’re accelerating the path from innovation to implementation.”
