Esprit Holdings Limited is a publicly owned manufacturer of clothing, footwear, accessories, jewellery and housewares under the Esprit label. The company is headquartered in Kowloon, Hong Kong, and Ratingen, Germany. Esprit has launched their third “Recycled Collection by Esprit†end of September.
After the first introduction of sustainable collection in 2012, the 13 piece collection marked the ongoing cooperation between Esprit and Hong Kong-based non-governmental organization Redress.
For the recycled collection Esprit makes use its own fabric off cuts from manufacturing to create new textiles. This procedure serves to reduce textile waste and carbon emission, and additionally saves up to 75% water.
Every year the collection is designed by the winner of the Redress EcoChic Design Award. This year’s collection was designed by Berlin designer Karen Jessen, winner of 2013. Next to knit styles there are also eight denim styles including a jumpsuit, dress, jacket, skinny pants and chino trousers, all made of 43% recycled cotton.
In addition, all garments are equipped with a hangtag that contains a QR code. The Redress initiative “R Cert†created those QR codes to allow customers to track the manufacturing of their garment on their website, by scanning the code.
The “Recycled Collection by Esprit†garments range from 59.99€ – 149€ for the denim styles and from 29.99€ – 59.99€ for jersey styles
The “Recycled Collection by Esprit†is available in selected countries including Austria, Finland, France, Germany, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as selected European Esprit online shops.
