A giant production site broke ground on Monday in east China’s Shandong Province, with an annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes of new nylon materials.
With a total investment of around 20 billion yuan (around 2.83 billion U.S. dollars), the site covers an area about 200 hectares in the city of Zibo.
It will also have an annual production capacity of 500,000 tonnes of hexanediamine, 500,000 tonnes of adiponitrile and 500,000 tonnes of acrylonitrile.
Adiponitrile is the key raw material for the production of nylon 66, which is widely used in fields such as automobile manufacturing and electronic information. At present, the global production capacity of adiponitrile is about 2 million tonnes and the industry is highly monopolized.
The production site was a cooperative project of China Tianchen Engineering Corporation (TCC), a subsidiary of China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation, and private enterprise Qixiang Tengda Chemical Co., Ltd.
Yuan Xuemin, chairman of TCC, said the project in Zibo will completely break the international monopoly on high-end nylon, fill the gaps of domestic technology and industry, and satisfy the urgent need for the sound development of the country’s nylon industry in the long run.
