Cone Denim to produce OCS certified cotton

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-05-05 07:54:16 – USA

Cone Denim announced that by the end of 2021, it would have produced approximately 3 million pounds of certified Organic Content Standard (OCS) cotton for the production of its organic denim collection.

The Organic Control Standard (OCS) is a voluntary international standard that establishes standards for third-party approval of certified organic input and chain of custody.

President of Cone Denim, Steve Maggard, said Cone Denim introduced the first Organic Cotton Capsule collection more than a decade ago as part of their expanding Sustainblue collection of denim fabrics, and they continue to push the use of organic and other natural fibers through their global network.

He adds that as they work to incorporate more sustainable elements into Cone's most genuine denim, they're seeing tremendous interest in organic cotton. They are committed to give their customers additional trust in the authenticity and purity of Cone's organic denim fabrics through transparency and traceability.

Maggard said due to the stringent standards and increased demand, certified organic cotton supplies are restricted. As a result, Cone Denim has been working hard with manufacturers to procure extra inventory. He adds on Cone's global website, limited supply is currently available, with greater availability from their China mill.

To make organic yarns and denim fabrics, all Cone Denim mills are OCS accredited. Cone's Certified Organic Cotton fabrics are manufactured from pesticide-free, herbicide-free, and synthetic fertilizer-free organically grown cotton.

Cone is the first global denim manufacturer to provide Oritain technologies to clinically validate the origins of cotton, in addition to being OCS accredited. It also engages in the Better Cotton Initiative, U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, Cotton Leads, and the Better Cotton Initiative.

Cone Denim delivers a tier-based offering of innovative technologies and eco-friendly denim fabrics, varying from 15-100% organic cotton to meet a variety of economic needs.
