Coats Digital introduces buying, cutting solution to reduce waste

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-09-13 18:15:21 – USA

Technology solutions company, Coats Digital, has unveiled its FastReactFabric solution, which integrates buying and cutting processes on a single platform to save waste and fabric costs by up to 2.5%.

The FastReactFabric solution from Coats Digital, which was only introduced last week (8 September), aims to reduce clothing waste by reducing the time needed to design and purchase fabrics by 95%. Additionally, it is said to offer 100% fabric monitoring, improving sustainability credentials and lowering the overall amount of fabric waste that may otherwise wind up in landfills.

The system offers data insights that may monitor and optimize in-flight fabric consumption and waste, and it facilitates effective planning for intricate designs and color palettes.

Coats Digital states that with FastReactFabric, the clothes sector can minimize the amount of fabric needed, which will have a good impact on the environment while raising revenues, placing people, the planet, and performance into the very center of the fashion supply chain. The major benefit of employing reliable, digitalized historical data is that it allows manufacturers to forecast their precise demands in the future, which significantly supports good longer-term planning and trend forecasts.

A closed-loop, continuous 360-degree feedback ecosystem between buying and cutting operations is provided by the new system, which combines Coats Digital's prior IntelloCut and IntelloBuy solutions into a single platform. This allows fashion manufacturers to accurately source and utilize fabric in an efficient manner. According to the business, this translates into less waste, more efficiency, and a big improvement in the bottom line.

Coats Digital managing director Akash Shah, said that they carefully listened to what their customers were saying about the fabric challenges they face, and they realized that it made perfect sense to amalgamate and enhance their fabric cutting and buying solutions into one comprehensive single platform to eradicate key pain points in one fell swoop.

The digitization of fabric-related processes, he continues, is the most fundamental way that apparel manufacturers can significantly increase their profits and lessen the environmental impact of fabric waste. Fabric costs account for 70% to 80% of the costs associated with fashion manufacturing, according to him.

The approach, in Shah's opinion, would assist the garment sector future-proof itself against impending international laws about waste and environmental compliance while also helping to repair some of the financial harm caused by the pandemic.

Wesley Ekman, senior sales director at Coats Digital, said that buying too much cloth is an expensive error. If fashion producers wish to keep up with rising customer demand for fashion in a range of design and color options, they simply cannot afford to acquire the incorrect quantity of their greatest cost investment in such a volatile trade climate.

Ekman said that a more efficient production process using accurate fabric data significantly frees up warehouse and shop floor space, reduces inventory, and enables manufacturers to effectively adapt to increasing garment complexities and colorways. They expect their new solution will prove to be a highly compelling proposition to companies looking for a sure-fire remedy to mitigate rising costs quickly.

By automating and optimizing the estimation of fabric consumption at the buying stage, along with precise cut planning and execution on the production floor, FastReactFabric is allegedly able to increase fabric utilization. This eliminates time-consuming manual tasks and lowers the consumption of fabric, water, and energy.

The goal of the new solution, according to Coats Digital, is to eventually uncover fabric purchasing and cutting data in order to produce valuable insights that encourage confident decision-making.
