Carrington
UK-based Carrington Textiles, has introduced a new range of workwear fabrics made from sustainable materials such as recycled polyester, BCI, and organic cotton, as well as a biodegradable synthetic fiber technology and a more durable flame retardant product.
Constance and Balaton stretch textiles, with weights of 210gsm and 255gsm, respectively, feature Repreve recycled polyester manufactured from plastic bottles and BCI cotton, as well as Xlance’s high stretch technology, which is eco-friendly, solvent-free, and made entirely with renewable energy. Constance is a Carrington Textiles sustainable alternative to Idra, a workwear fabric, and B is a Carrington Textiles sustainable alternative to Idra, a workwear fabric.
Kielder, a 185gsm fabric made up of 50% BCI cotton and 50% Repreve, is on the lighter side of the Balance Range. Kielder, as an alternative to Cooltex Lite, has an exceptionally soft feel thanks to its 4/1 twill, a polyester face for better durability, and cotton inside for increased wearer comfort.
The Delamere 210gsm and 245gsm weights, constructed from 65% Repreve and BCI cotton, are the next additions to the Delamere family. In the meanwhile, Rivington 205gsm and 220gsm weight textiles are the more environmentally friendly solutions for Xtraflex Lite and Xtraflex 1.
Carrington has also adopted CiCLO technology, a sustainable additive that is coupled with polyester at the very beginning of the fiber manufacturing process, following considerable research. CiCLO polyester acts like natural fibers when it enters the environment, either through washing or end-of-life, decreasing microplastic contamination and textile accumulation. Intrinsic Advanced Materials (IAM), a joint venture between Intrinsic Textiles Group, a Silicon Valley firm, and Parkdale Advanced Materials, the textiles giant Parkdale’s fibers and yarns business, developed it.
Carrington Textiles is the first workplace fabric producer to utilize CiCLO in its new Hawksbill and Orca materials, both of which come in 245gsm weights and are sustainable alternatives to the business’s bestselling Tomboy.
Hawksbill is made up of 65% CiCLO polyester and 35% organic cotton, whereas Orca is made up of 26% recycled CiCLO, 29% virgin CiCLO, and 35% BCI cotton.
With 90% of professional clothes ending up in landfills, it’s also critical to use textiles that can survive industrial washes and repeated uses to extend the life of garments. Carrington’s Flamestat 250gsm is a new member of the Flamestat family, with flame retardancy that is guaranteed to endure the life of the garment thanks to its sturdy construction. Flame retardancy fulfills EN ISO 11612, EN ISO 14116 index 3, and EN ISO 11611 standards, while antistatic qualities meet EN ISO 1149-3-5.
Paul Farrell, Carrington’s sales and marketing director, said that these new fabrics see them take a major step towards a more sustainable future in workwear textiles, increasing the use of recycled and sustainable fiber raw materials, as well as introducing biodegradable technologies, all while maintaining the same high levels of durability to extend the garment lifetime. In the future, they hope to announce even more new sustainable products and to keep Carrington at the forefront of sustainable textile development.
