Carnegie Fabrics expands its line of biobased Xorel® collection

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-09-12 13:56:00 – United Kingdom

Carnegie Fabrics, a supplier of sustainable textiles and space management solutions for building interiors, announced that it has expanded its line of highly acclaimed plant-based fabrics, Biobased Xorel®, with 4 new bespoke patterns created especially for the hotel sector.

From the start, Carnegie's unique Xorel yarn leveled the playing field by providing a sustainable substitute for vinyl textile goods without having an adverse impact on the environment. Xorel is a timeless design that is beautiful both inside and out because of its great performance and aesthetic qualities.

The rich surface texture of the recently launched Biobased Xorel designs pays respect to nostalgia, tradition, and a designer's appreciation of the little things. This is accomplished by carefully combining twisted multicolor Xorel yarns with organic weave structures. This focus on dynamic texture, when skillfully constructed, results in aesthetically appealing surfaces that are nevertheless visible from a distance. The collection draws design cues from manor homes, the tactile façade of 11th-century buildings, and the traditional wool and tweed fabrics that formerly adorned their interiors. The new additions' color scheme includes classic complex neutrals that enable designers to mix them with other Xorel products in the range, enabling them to fit into any room without losing elegance for cost-effectiveness. Additionally, Xorel wall coverings offer value and endurance for whole hospitality or workplace design solution thanks to their outstanding cleanability.

Carnegie Fabrics CEO Gordon Boggis, said that for more than 40 years, Carnegie's Xorel brand has offered precise performance and striking beauty, and its reputation for sustainability and excellence has only grown in 2013 with the launch of Biobased Xorel. The collection's ongoing development reflects its commitment to creating long-lasting, easily cleaned, and colorfast products without sacrificing environmental benefits.

When compared to goods made from fossil fuels, biobased Xorel has a substantially smaller environmental impact because it is made from quickly renewable sugarcane. Each piece in the collection is created with 25% to 50% biobased material and is PVC-free, with 100% polyethylene as its primary material. Compared to many other biobased sources, such as beet or corn, the production of sugarcane emits less carbon than these other sources. 2.5 tons of carbon are caught and stored for every ton of sugarcane used to make Biobased Xorel. Biobased Xorel is durable, non-absorbent, antimicrobial, stain-resistant, and colorfast. Its patented Xorel yarn requires no additional finishes, coatings, or chemistry to function and is devoid of chlorine, plasticizers, heavy metals, hazardous dyes, and ozone-depleting chemicals.

Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver and Gold and SCS Indoor AdvantageTM Gold certifications are both held by Biobased Xorel. The material supports LEED-CI (Commercial Interiors) categories for fast renewable content, indoor air quality, material transparency, and material optimization. It is OK biobased confirmed by TUV Austria and is a USDA Certified Biobased Product.
