Bottega Veneta taps into the circular fashion market

Bottega Veneta has launched a new line of handbags made out of 100% recycled FSC certified cardboard paper to keep up with the sustainable wave of fashion trends. The Kering wend luxury label has been led by former Celine designer Daniel Lee since 2018. The brand has constantly been looking into eco-friendly fashion options to support their sustainable customer base.

The Bottega Veneta has taken a step away from its classic woven design and has debuted a new collection of handbags that are produced out of 100% recyclable FSC certified cardboard paper. The all-new ‘Kraft paper’ marks one of the label’s most iconic bag designs with a recycled and recyclable paper giving the product a natural crumpled aesthetic.

The raw material has been treated with aliphatic polyurethane film and microfibre fabric which adds protection and waterproof properties to the bags. The bags in the collection are given support through a magnetic frame and lined with calf leather which unfortunately is not under the vegan category. It does however mark the luxury brands leap into the world of circularity.

The latest addition will come at a hefty price with the Kraft paper collection expected to retail between US$1,150 to US$21,000. It is currently available at all the Bottega Veneta stores and their official websites.

The launch of the new collection comes as the brand’s parent company, Kering, attempts to act more responsibly towards the fashion industry’s pollution, waste and climate crisis.

Over the past few years, the global luxury brand has made initiatives to put sustainability at the forefront of its strategy. They have not only hosted a conference in the Shanghai Fashion Week last year focused on stability but also have pointed Emma Watson to their board of directors and the chair of their sustainable committee.

The band had previously launched its 100% biodegradable boots made from coffee and sugarcane on the runway.
