Blueair, Lanaco to launch natural wool-based air filters

Unilever-owned brand Blueair, headquartered in Stockholm, has announced a partnership with New Zealand wool filter company Lanaco to develop high-performance air filters made from electrostatic wool and plant fibers.

This collaboration supports Blueair’s growth strategy focused on enhancing indoor air quality. It follows the recent launch of Blueair’s “Air Designed for a Better Life” campaign, which emphasizes the importance of clean indoor air for improved sleep, mood, and physical health.

Lanaco’s innovative approach combines the unique properties of wool with data-driven technology to create filter media with high efficiency and minimal airflow resistance. Their EcoStatic filter technology uses positive and negative fiber charges to attract and capture particles, while the porous structure allows easy air passage. Unlike traditional filters made from synthetic or plastic materials, EcoStatic media is based entirely on wool, which is naturally fire-resistant and water-repellent, preventing clogging from moisture.

“This partnership with Lanaco marks an industry milestone, introducing the first natural wool fiber filter,” said Andy Lu, CEO of Blueair. “With Lanaco’s New Zealand wool filter technology, we’re setting a new standard for performance. Lanaco’s filter has been in development for ten years, starting with the Astino wool breeding program and undergoing rigorous testing, including in space exploration.”

Nick Davenport, CEO of Lanaco, added, “Wool is a renewable resource transforming the filtration industry. Our partnership with Blueair reflects our shared goal of improving air quality and making a positive impact.”
