The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with ActionAid Bangladesh to work together as strategic partners in supporting the sustainable transformation of the country’s readymade garment industry.
According to a press statement, the partnership aims to strengthen human rights and environmental responsibility, improve compliance systems, and enhance the overall well-being of garment workers. As part of the agreement, ActionAid Bangladesh will act as a strategic partner in supporting BGMEA’s Sustainable Strategic Vision 2030.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will collaborate on key focus areas such as promoting women’s leadership in factories, ensuring fair and safe working conditions, and creating workplaces free from harassment and discrimination. The partnership will also work to raise workers’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
Environmental sustainability is another major focus of the collaboration. The partners aim to reduce carbon emissions by encouraging the use of energy-efficient technologies, supporting green industrial practices, and improving occupational health, mental well-being, and access to social protection systems for garment workers.
The MoU will be valid for five years, from January 2026 to December 2030. As part of the agreement, ActionAid Bangladesh will provide financial support for joint initiatives, while BGMEA will offer infrastructure and logistical assistance across its member factories.
