Bcomp, Ather Energy launch vehicle with flax fiber composites

Bcomp has partnered with Indian electric vehicle manufacturer Ather Energy to develop a new concept two-wheeler called Redux, which highlights the advantages of ampliTex woven flax material.

The Redux concept focuses on experimenting with advanced materials, innovative design interfaces, and new mechanical features. Bcomp’s flax fibre composites play a major role in both the visual and structural design of the vehicle. The concept demonstrates how sustainable materials can offer strong structural support along with an attractive design. The flax-based composite helps reduce the overall weight of the body while maintaining the strength needed for two-wheeler vehicles.

AmpliTex is a woven fabric created from flax fibres, which are renewable and produce a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventional materials like ABS, glass fibre, or carbon fibre. When combined with a thermoset resin, the material can reduce carbon emissions by up to 85 percent compared to carbon fibre alternatives.

Apart from sustainability benefits, ampliTex offers a unique woven surface appearance and strong mechanical properties that are suitable for exposed composite applications. This aligns with Ather Energy’s design approach, which highlights visible components and uses minimal body panels to showcase engineering details.
