Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry has reached a milestone in its sustainability journey by securing 38 new LEED-certified green factories in 2025. This is the highest number achieved by any country in a single year, further strengthening Bangladesh’s position as an important leader in environmentally responsible apparel manufacturing, according to industry representatives.
The achievement is significant not only because of the number of certifications, but also because of their high standards. The newly certified factories received Platinum, Gold, and Silver certification, indicating a shift away from minimum requirements towards green manufacturing practices. Industry leaders attribute this success to long-term investment, supportive policies, and coordinated efforts led by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Industry experts note that factories with green certification are now preferred by buyers during negotiations, long-term sourcing agreements, and for higher-value product lines. This preference is helping Bangladesh remain competitive at a time when global apparel supply chains are facing rising costs and tighter compliance standards.
