ASICS joins the Fashion Pact to make positive climate changes

ASICS becomes the first Japanese company to join the Fashion Pact. The company has made its announcement and look forward to joining the initiative.

In August 2019, Thirty-two fashion and textile companies signed the Fashion Pact, to join hands and protect the climate, biodiversity and the oceans of the world.

A year after its foundation, the group announced that its membership had nearly doubled to 60 organisations, representing around 200 brands. It said this equated to about one-third of the global fashion industry.

Some of the sports brands involved are Decathalon, Moncler, Puma, Nike and Adidas. ASICS stated that they have joined the group as a part of its focus on climate change. The company announced a commitment to set science-based emissions reduction targets in support of global efforts to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

ASICS targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at business locations by 38% compared to its figures for 2015, and by 55% per product along the supply chain by 2030. They are preparing to raise these targets in 2021.

In addition, the company has made a commitment to source 100% sustainable cotton for its apparel and accessories by 2025.
