Alcis using recycled polyester for most of it's apparel

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2018-06-15 11:05:00 – Bengaluru

The company has also joined forces with Flipkart to sell official FIFA fan-wear merchandise purely. A performance wear brand promoted by Paragon Apparels, Alcis said that it will manufacture 50 per cent of its apparel from recycled polyester, which is derived from plastic waste.

Roshan Baid, Managing Director of Alcis Sports, said that consumers in India are increasingly becoming environmentally conscious. He added that, “With India playing host to the World Environment Day and the theme for this year being ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, we thought that this is a great time to discard polyester and move to recycled polyester.” He claims that this move will help reduce carbon emission by over 54 per cent, energy consumption by 50 per cent and 27 litres of water can be saved per product.

These T-Shirts use R-PET, a strong, durable and recyclable material used for soda bottles, water bottles, food jars etc, making them environment-friendly and cost-effective.

Alcis has been making t-shirts from waste plastic bottles for the past two years called ‘Wonder Tee’. Each t-shirt uses about 8 plastic bottles, according to the company.
